The unique limestone loughs of Ireland are noted for the quality of the wild brown trout fishing they produce. Situated within the midland plain and renowned for producing trophy sized wild brown trout, Sheelin offers the visiting angler the opportunity to catch a specimen trout on a surface fly. To achieve such a feat, knowledge of the areas that hold good stocks of fish, where the best fly hatches occur, the time of day and the season when the flies hatch is the requisite for a successful visit. A good angling guide will know this information, he will put the visiting angler over the best areas at key times allowing the angler to focus on the fishing and to fish with confidence that he is in the right place at the right time.

Thomas and Gary (Lough Sheelin Guiding Services) live close to lough and know it intimately. They have good access to the local grapevine, and will know where and when an area is coming into form. Sheelin is renowned for its mayfly hatches. It is synonymous with the spent gnat, a unique event in the Irish fishing calendar, but there is also good buzzer, murrough, sedge and backend fry feeding periods. If you cannot make the mayfly, there is always an alternative, but to make the most of these periods local knowledge is essential. Both Thomas and Gary have good experience of all the seasons, and will offer advice on what is available. I have fished with both these anglers, and know that they are totally committed to providing the visitor with every opportunity to make the most of their precious fishing time. If there are trout to be caught, Lough Sheelin Guiding services will put you over the fish, allowing you the angler to concentrate on the fishing.

"A friend and I had 2 great days fishing on lough sheelin on 11th and 12th May. It was our first time fishing sheelin, so we booked Gary mckiernan of lough sheelin guiding services. With Garys encyclopaedic knowledge of sheelin and handy boat skills he had us covering fish and within 10 minutes we had a wild trout in the boat weighing upwards of 5 pounds! Despite adverse weather conditions we landed 8 fish over the 2 days, all caught on dry fly. If we had gone out without Gary we would probably have blanked. garys company was great, unobtrusive but relaxed and informal, his boat comfortable with fishing seats for both anglers, good value for money. I couldn't recommend Gary highly enough and we will certainly use his services again on our next trip to sheelin"

Neddie worked very hard for us and was lovely. He was very patient with my wife and we both enjoyed our time with him on the lake. I can tell this fishery can be very good when it is fishing well.
We hope we have another chance to fish Lough Sheelin someday in the future. Thanks again for setting things up for us and when make it back here we’ll certainly look you up again.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed fishing with Lough Sheeling Guiding Services today. Making the arrangements was straight forward and professional. Thomas was the ideal guide, he gave good advice throughout the day and put me where the fish were.

I would have no hesitation in recommending your service to other anglers. Thank you.
